Theatre Workshop
- Buried Pasts - We are all asylum seekers - with internationally acclaimed playwright Kay Adshead 10am-4pm Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October 2006 Crossroads Women’s Centre 230a Kentish Town Rd, NW5 2AB ** Entrance Caversham Rd ** Wheelchair accessible ** Nearest tube Kentish Town ** 4pm Sunday 22 October street theatre @ Kentish Town tube Led by Kay Adshead of Mamaquillo, a woman-led theatre company which spotlights human rights abuses and author of the award winning Bogus Woman, this two-day workshop will focus on writing and performing street theatre. The workshop builds on over two years’ experience of the Welcome to Fortress Europe theatre project at the Crossroads Women’s Centre. Countering often hostile media coverage of asylum seekers lives, which aims to divide us and hide what we all have in common, the project publicises the experiences of the All African Women’s Group, a self-help group of women seeking asylum. Using a cast of those with and without papers[1] the latest piece “Put Yourselves In Our Shoes” has been performed in schools, at public events and on the streets to great acclaim. Enthusiastic audience participation has been a hallmark of the performances with young people from eight year olds to sixth formers throwing themselves into roles that spoke to their experience or that of their family or mates. The weekend workshop will draw on the memories and lives of all participants, asylum seekers and non-asylum seekers and the ways in which we are all seeking asylum – that is trying to find protection and safety from harm. It will begin on Saturday with the performance of a new piece written by Kay Adshead and end with street theatre performed on Sunday 4pm at Kentish Town underground. All welcome but spaces limited so please call 020 7482 2496 to book a place (or for further details). Sponsored by Camden Council for Black History Month -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1] People with and without immigration status in the UK |

STOP ISRAELI WAR CRIMES
- SUPPORT PALESTINIAN HUMAN RIGHTS Vigil in Parliament Square Friday 30 June 2006 5:30 - 7pm. The Israeli government have amassed troops on the outskirts of Gaza and are moving into Rafah, threatening invasion to rescue one Israeli soldier taken hostage on Sunday 25th June. There are currently 300 Palestinian children (under 18's) and 100 Palestinian women being held hostages in Israeli prisons. They are among 9,000 Palestinians being held, many of whom are in administrative detention - i.e. without trial or charges. However Israeli leader Ehud Olmert says negotiations 'are not on the agenda'. The Israeli army have killed 50 Palestinians since the beginning of this month. Any invasion will inevitably lead to many more Palestinians casualties. Since last night the Israeli army has destroyed the electricity supplies of over half of the Gaza Strip and is tightening its closure and strangulation of the area, thus committing an illegal act of collective punishment on the Palestinian Population. The situation is sure to get worse as Israeli tanks move into densely populated civilian areas, that have already suffered heavily from several months of daily shelling and closures. The PSC is calling for a vigil against Israeli War Crimes and in support of Palestinian Human Rights this Friday (30th June) from 5:30 to 7pm in Parliament Square. We call on all supporters of Palestine to make their presence known in this current emergency. We would also like to ask you to please contact you MPs and ask them to protest at the attack on Gaza, to ask questions in Parliament and to the Foreign Office. The FO can be contacted directly too, as the actions of the Israeli State contravene International Law and the UK must stop these war crimes from happening. For your MP: http://www.upmystreet.com/commons/l/ and: 0207 219 3000 Foreign and Commonwealth Office King Charles Street London SW1A 2AH Tel: 020 7008 1500 Fax: 020 7008 2144 --------------------------------------------------------------------- نرجو منكم المشاركة في هذا الاعتصام الذي تنظمه الجمعية البريطانية للتضامن مع فلسطين بدعم من المنتدى الفلسطيني، ونأمل أن نرى حضورا فلسطينيا وعربيا مميزا للتعبير عن تضامننا مع أهلنا في القطاع وللتنديد بالحملة الإجرامية التي تشنها دولة الاحتلال الصهيوني ضد أهلنا غزة ولمطالبة الحكومة البريطانية بالتدخل لوقف هذه الحملة والعمل على إطلاق سراح السجناء الفلسطينيين. كما نأمل منكم توقيع العريضة بهذا الخصوص على موقع جمعية التضامن المبين أدناه. زاهر بيراوي يرجى التعميم على أوسع نطاق ممكن |

Metropolitan Police
Authority conference: 'Together Against Terror?' - online poll goes live.
5 December 2005 The Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) will be holding a one-day conference 'Together Against Terror?' on Monday 12 December 2005 with the aim of widening the London and national debate on how our society should respond to the terrorist threat. We are inviting the public to join the debate by answering ten key questions, which will also be put to delegates on the day, published on the MPA website: www.mpa.gov.uk <http://www.mpa.gov.uk> Len Duvall, Chair of the Authority, said: "The MPA's job is to consult with London's communities to find out what they expect from the police. By including public participation in the policing debate this event will signal an important step change and we urge Londoners to make their views known. "It is crucial that we involve as many people as possible in this debate. To this end we have published a poll on the MPA website which we hope will provide important input from the public about how we, together with the police, should respond to the terrorist threat. The results of the poll, which is totally anonymous, will be collated and analysed by the MPA to produce a report (with recommendations) to be presented to the Full Authority meeting on 26 January 2006. Copies of this report will be made widely available. "Combating terrorism is not just a police responsibility. Everyone has a role to play and an opinion that should be heard. We have invited over a hundred people to take part in an informal debate on 12 December; this is an important new departure for the Authority and we are eager to hear peoples' views." Len Duvall continued: "The MPA, together with the MPS, has been holding public discussions on issues around terrorism and community response since the atrocities of 7 July. "The MPA hosted the 'Communities Together' conference on 11 July 2005 and promised 'to keep policing issues in the public eye'. The debate was progressed at the Full Authority on 27 October when Operation Kratos was discussed in public. Next week's conference aims to bring together work that has been undertaken since the London bombings and give new direction and impetus to our united fight against terrorism." |

at the Royal Albert Hall 28 June 2005 is performing in London's Royal Albert Hall In order to add his voice to the support of Children of the Middle East, Ragheb Alama will now be performing a concert at the Royal Albert Hall on behalf of the Melkonian Foundation and the Egyptian Association in Great Britain. Mortality rates of children under-five in many parts of the Middle East have deteriorated considerably in recent years due to poor water supply, lack of sanitation, an inadequate health infrastructure and deepening poverty. It is estimated that the on-going support that the Melkonian Foundation provides is helping over 50,000 children to overcome conditions of appalling hardship. To book, please go to www.royalalberthall.com or call the box office on 020 7589 8212 But hurry! Tickets are being sold FAST! |

The 2nd World Islamic Economic Forum will be taking place in Islamabad "Unleashing the Potential of Emerging Markets" between 5th - 7th November 2006 at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad, Pakistan. Present will include many heads of state - I will forward you a registration form, and a hotel form for the 2nd WIEF if you wish to attend. These will then be submitted to the Pakistan Government. Another important point is that, we are having as our preliminary session, the WIEF Young Entrepreneurs Roundtable for young and dynamic Muslim entrepreneurs. We would be delighted to have a sizeable delegation from the UK to attend this Roundtable. I would appreciate it if you could provide some names for invitation. If you need to know more about the Forum and if you need more questions answered, do go to our official website www.wief.org.my at the FAQ section. Thank you and look forward to your prompt reply.
