"What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built;
not what you got, but what you gave.
What will matter is not your success, but your significance.’
Severe drought and famine continues to savage Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti, with people just collapsing and dying. As the temperatures sore to over 40 degree centigrade (104 Fahrenheit), millions of peoples’ lives are threatened through dehydration, and drought related starvation. Severe water shortages in these east African countries have forced many to drink their own urine, whilst others walk upto 70 kilometers (45 miles) to get tiny amounts of water, one-twentieth of the daily amount recommended by minimum humanitarian standards.
The drought threatens millions across east Africa, 1.7 of whom live in lawless Somalia where relief operations are hampered by rampant insecurity, war-shattered infrastructure and a lack of even the most basic services. These people are in dire need of urgent water supplies.
Livestock-dependent pastoralist communities that live in the affected areas have been hardest hit as cattle, goats and camels die in unprecendented numbers from hunger and thirst.
It is our collective duty to reach out and help these people before it is too late, for we are told in the Holy
Qu’ran:
"Verily this Ummah of yours is one Ummah." (21:92)
